Understanding Your Results

What is the Overall Network Score?

The Overall Network Score is an average of your four main test categories: Security, Privacy, Speed, and Stability. It gives you a quick 0-100 rating of your overall WiFi health. Scores of 80+ are excellent, 60-79 are good, 40-59 are fair, and below 40 indicate poor performance.

What does the Security score measure?

The Security score evaluates:

  • Whether your connection uses HTTPS encryption
  • If you're in a secure context
  • Presence of mixed content
  • TLS protocol information
  • HSTS support
A higher score indicates stronger security protocols protecting your data.

What does the Privacy score measure?

The Privacy score checks if your real IP address is visible to websites and whether you're using a VPN or proxy. It also evaluates potential WebRTC leaks and browser fingerprinting capabilities. A higher score means better privacy protection.

What speed metrics are tested?

We measure:

  • Download Speed: How fast data comes to you (measured in Mbps)
  • Upload Speed: How fast you can send data (measured in Mbps)
  • Latency: The delay in network communication (measured in milliseconds)
  • Jitter: Variation in latency consistency

Why is my speed test result different from other sites?

Speed test results can vary based on the server location, time of day, network load, and testing methodology. WiFi.Report uses real network measurements through your browser's APIs. Different speed test sites may use different endpoints and testing methods, leading to different results.

Privacy & Security

Is my data collected or stored?

No. All analysis is performed 100% locally in your browser. Your test results are never sent to our servers. We don't collect, store, or track any of your WiFi data or network information. Your privacy is completely protected.

Why can't you see my detailed network information?

WiFi.Report uses browser APIs which have privacy and security limitations. Modern browsers restrict JavaScript from accessing detailed WiFi network information (like SSID, signal strength, and MAC addresses) for security reasons. This is intentional and protects your privacy.

What is the IP address shown in results?

The IP address displayed is your external IP address - the one visible to websites you visit. If you're NOT using a VPN, this reveals your approximate location and ISP. If you're using a VPN, the displayed IP will be your VPN server's IP, not your real one.

Is WiFi.Report safe to use?

Yes. WiFi.Report is completely safe. It doesn't install any malware, doesn't track you, and doesn't collect your data. The entire analysis happens in your browser using standard web APIs. We recommend checking our privacy policy for more details.

Troubleshooting

The test is taking too long. Should I wait?

WiFi.Report should typically complete within 30-60 seconds. If it's taking much longer, there might be a network issue. You can refresh the page and try again. Sometimes on very slow connections, certain tests may timeout.

Why are my speed test results showing 0 Mbps?

This can happen due to:

  • Network connectivity issues
  • Browser restrictions on certain networks
  • Corporate/school network firewall blocking speed tests
  • Failed connection to test endpoints
Try refreshing the page or switching networks. Check your browser console (F12) for error messages.

Can I export or share my results?

Results are displayed on the page and you can take a screenshot to save them. We currently don't have built-in export functionality, but you can easily share the results by taking a screenshot of your analysis report.

The Chrome extension isn't working. What should I do?

Try:

  • Reloading the extension (go to chrome://extensions/)
  • Restarting Chrome completely
  • Uninstalling and reinstalling the extension
  • Clearing your browser cache
  • Using the web version at wifi.report
